We the parishioners of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church respond to our Baptismal call to bear witness to Christ’s presence to all people, and we continue the life and mission of Jesus Christ by worshipping God, growing in our faith, and sharing our time, talent, and treasure.
St. John Baptist was officially founded in 1918 as a church to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in the Point Place, Toledo area. The church grew and grew, adding an elementary school in 1919. We moved locations early on, built and rebuilt our church, rectory, and school, and are now settled on Summit Street. God has blessed our parish with several wonderful pastors, each one bringing new life and charisms to touch St. John’s in his own way.
We sadly had to close our elementary school in 2016 as numbers in Catholic education have dropped across the city of Toledo. The importance of Catholic education remains close to our hearts, as lived out in our parish school of religion (CCD program), and many of our families still choose to send their children to Catholic schools. Our parish commitment to serving the Point Place community remains the same, and many parishioners participate in active service through groups like the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Helping Hands of St. Louis.
St. John's is now twinned with Regina Coeli. Although we have separate staffs, we share the same Pastor, and mission to serve our community.
As a parish family, we encourage each other to participate and engage in every area of parish life – in the Mass, in service, in stewardship, and in faith sharing.
